Birthday Sugar Rush

May 3rd, 2012

Its been a really long time since I’ve eaten any cake or sweet rolls at all. I need to lose a few pounds and I know that a slice of cake or a cinnamon bun is not going to help me melt away these last few pounds.

But it was my boss’s birthday and they had a big cake from Publix in the conference room, so I had to take a slice or be ostracized by everyone at the office for being unsociable. It tasted good, but now I feel like I have a major sugar rush going on. My hands are shaky and jittery and I feel so restless – like I really can’t sit still for more than 20 seconds. How crazy is that?

Late Lunch

April 30th, 2012

Today is going to be a late lunch. Our receptionist has a doctor’s appointment and she had to make it for lunch time. So I have to cover the front desk for her until she gets back. It could be hours before she gets back, depending on where her doctor is and how long it takes to sit in the waiting room before seeing him.

I wish someone had told me this morning so I could have eaten early. I am starving and not allowed to eat anything while at the front desk – even though no one ever comes in during the normal lunch hour. With my luck, I would have just taken a bite of something I sneaked in and as my mouth was full the Big Boss would drop in. Can’t take that chance – rumor has it that he did that one time and fired the girl on the spot.

Eat an Apple

April 25th, 2012

Read an old interview with Johnny Depp about how he lost a lot of weight for one of his movie roles. He looked extremely thin for that role, and it was critical to the character. So he went on a 3 month crash diet. He says that he doesn’t recommend this for anyone because it is probably not healthy overall, but what he did was eat nothing but 1 apple every day and drank as much coffee as he wanted. He lost over 60 pounds in less than 3 months by drinking coffee and eating just an apple! That’s crazy! I’m glad he lost the weight, but I can’t believe that would be OK with any doctor anywhere!

Cracking the Code

April 20th, 2012

Dating these days is getting tougher and tougher. I don’t know if its because most guys my age are already married and the only single ones are losers? Or mayb I judt don’t go to the right places to meet the good ones who happen to be still single. Its getting frustrating.

There’s one guy who keep telling me he wants to go out, wants to see me, wants to get together, etc. But every time I suggest something he has an excuse or says he wants to “play it by ear.” Well, after several of those that never worked out, I’m pretty sure he is actually saying, “You are my Plan B or my Plan C – and the only way we will get together is if Pan A falls apart for some reason.”

That is so lame. It’s almost like lying. It sure isn’t being honest with me. The next time any man tells me he wants to “play it by ear” I’m going to tell him straight up, sorry I don’t DO the “play it by ear” thing. It is either a date or its not. I gotta know so I can make my plans.

Computer Repair Challenges

April 15th, 2012

Maybe computers are being made to be cheap so that we can consider them disposable instead of taking them to a computer repair shop. I don’t even know where to find a decent repair shop around here. I want a little computer shop in a strip shopping center, close to my home, that charges just $30 or $40 to fix a typical computer problem.

Evidently that is not going to happen. The only independent computer shop I can find is in a hole on the wall, nasty part of town. I felt like someone was going to mug me in between stepping out of my car and walking across the parking lot to get in the door. And they said it would be $50 to even look at the computer. Plus, they wouldn’t be able to get around to it for at least a week – maybe two weeks. And then if it needs parts ordered it could be another week before they get the parts and can fix it.

Sorry, guys, that doesn’t work for me. My laptop is my lifeblood and I’m not giving it up for three weeks and a couple hundred dollars for an unknown repair. I’d rather just buy another laptop from WalMart for $300 and have a whole new computer under warranty.
